Shutters? Not exactly a riveting subject you would think.
But for a Shutter-Nut, the world of Shutters, whether it be Roller
Shutters or Plantation Shutters, is an exciting place to be.
Consider the variety of styles, colours, grains of wood and textures,
positioning - door, window, etc. and the ambiance you can create
with them.
Picture the scene:
Waking to soft melodious birdsong and the gentle caress of softened
sunlight through your half opened Plantation Shutter.
or:
A sumptuous dinner on your verandah with the love of your life...
your faces gently lit by the muted glow of your home through a
strategically positioned Shutter.
Ah, Shutters!
Now you know of my passion, please allow me to add some weight
to the age old argument of Shutters versus the vertical blind.
There are 4 key words for you to consider:
Durability, Look, Functionality, and Ease of Use.
(I know that was 7 words, but work with me on this, please?!)
Durability of the Shutter:
Wooden and plastic shutters far outweigh the vinyl and material
vertical blind in the durability department. Vertical blinds fade
with sunlight, the plastic inserts at the bottom and top crumble
over time with the heat, and blinds are easily caught in window
catchments creating unsightly creases or tears.
Look:
Wooden Shutters look stylish and add a feeling of security to
the room they adorn. You can choose the colour and louver size
most suited to your home and your needs. For me Plantation Shutters
(window shutter) are the Rolls Royce of the Shutter Industry. They
are classic, enduringly stylish, and tasteful. Another added bonus
is they suit a range of decors from contemporary to traditional.
But you may find Aluminum Shutters more appropriate for areas that
are bearing the brunt of the elements, or perhaps a Roller Shutter
to suit your office or warehouse windows. And then Plastic Shutters
might work best above your spa or shower.
Functionality:
The Window, Door, and Roller Shutter insulates effectively, retaining
interior temperatures. They keep noise to a minimum and distance
the outside world far from the haven you've created. Roller Shutters
are a handy safety precaution in the event of storms, and can add
value to your home or office as an effective security device.
Ease of Use:
Shutters can be opened and closed easily at your whim, either
manually or electronically. Vertical blinds also open easily by
pulling on toggles. But I must add it can be incredibly frustrating
when the slats flip, get caught up with other slats, and tangle.
And then comes the ultimate test... cleaning.
Have you ever tried to clean vertical blinds? If you have, then
you can empathise with a vertical blind non-enthusiast! It is
nearly impossible to wipe the blinds while they are still hanging.
You have to unclip the lot and wipe them individually, else run
the risk of the clips at the top snapping! Ugh - who needs that
hassle? Now consider the Shutter: A quick dust over or a quick
wipe over will do the trick.
